The International Competition is a meeting point for the diverse horizons that make up the richness of global short filmmaking. Dive into worlds known only to the new wave of cinema talent.
Registration deadlines:

10 July 2025 for films completed between 1st October and 31 December 2024

25 September 2025 for films completed in 2025

Requirements:
  • Maximum running time: 40 minutes
  • Origin: All countries (except France)
  • Festival screening format: DCP
The National Competition showcases the best of France’s short film production over the past year, spanning all genres and backgrounds. Two French films are also selected to take part in the International Competition.

  • Origin: France as main country of production

The Lab Competition is where the crowd gathers to discover explosive, truly offbeat works. Unexpected combinations, original perspectives, a masterful embrace of risk — Clermont’s Lab throws open its doors to the most curious among you.

No application for this competition is necessary since the films will be chosen from those submitted to two competitions above.

The Lab Selection Committee will select the films for the Lab Competition from a pre-selection proposed by the Committees of the International and National Competition.

The XR Competition showcases immersive films. It highlights innovative works that use virtual, augmented, or mixed reality technologies. Industry professionals and audiences alike will have the opportunity to experience powerful immersive and sensory works that push the boundaries of traditional storytelling.

Requirements:
  • Maximum running time: 60 minutes
  • Films produced between 2024 and 2025
  • Genre: fiction, documentary, or experimental, using either live action or stop-motion (animation)
  • Accepted types of experiences: VR, AR, MR, installation, virtual worlds

Short Film Market

Participation:

The referencing of films at the International Short Film Market is free and non-competitive.

All films submitted to the National or International Competition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, whether or not selected, will be referenced in the digital catalog of the Short Film Market.

Requirements:

Referencing at the Short Film Market is only available for films who have been submitted to the National, International or XR Competitions of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

Short Film Market Picks Label:

In order to highlight the films particularly appreciated by the various official selection committees of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, SQP reserves the right to reference and label the aforementioned works as “Short Film Market Picks” on Short Film Market platforms such as its digital catalog or professional video library, thereby offering greater visibility for these films.

Video library option:

The video library option will allow Short Film Market participants to watch the film submitted to the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival online.

Online access is strictly reserved for professionals in the film and audiovisual industry (specifically, a closed group of users such as TV/VOD/SVOD broadcasters, distributors, programmers, press, etc.). Random checks will be carried out in advance by our teams.

Participants will be able to extend access to the video library through a paid subscription (Shortfilmwire+) until 15 November 2026.

Entry procedure:

Registration for the Short Film Market video library is free and optional. Participants

register via the shortfilmdepot.com website by ticking the “Video library option” box when registering for one of the national or international competitions of the Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival.

This option is mandatory for films selected for the international, national or Lab Competitions of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

Services:
  • Inclusion of the film in the Short Film Market video library and its online extension until 15 November 2026 (reserved for participating professionals* with a Shortfilmwire+ subscription).
  • Access to viewing statistics and the contact information of the professionals who viewed the film.
  • Free accreditation for the director and producer of the film.

* It being specified that in the case of an event that does not allow the festival and market to be held physically and/or restricts the conditions of access, such as a health crisis or any other force majeure, participation may be virtual or remote.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Submissions are to done via Shortfilmdepot only.
Please complete the entry form, upload your film to the platform and submit to “Festival du Court Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand”.
There is no registration for the Lab Competition since the films will be chosen from those entered into the National and International competitions.

No preview links are accepted. Only uploaded films & submissions via Shortfilmdepot are accepted.

We do not accept DVDs, Blu-Rays or USB supports. Only preview files (.mp4) can be uploaded via Shortfilmdepot.

If your film is in French, no subtitles are requested for the submission process.

If your film is in English, adding English subtitles is preferred.

If your film is not in English or in French, please subtitle it in one of these two languages.

For subtitles’ information regarding the selected films, please refer to our regulations.

You can register as many films as you want, as long as they meet the required criteria in the regulations.

Unfortunately no, you cannot re-submit a film that has already been submitted to the festival in the past (even if the new edit is very different from the first).

This includes films that filmmakers decided to send as works-in-progress.

Yes, you can submit your film as a work-in-progress before the deadline – just make sure you tick the work-in-progress box in the upload section of your screening copy on Shortfilmdepot.
However, bear in mind that the committee will view this version and will not see the film a second time. If you send us a working copy, you must be satisfied with the version you send us.
If it’s just an unmixed or unscaled copy, don’t worry, simply indicate this with a card at the beginning of the film.
You will later be able to update the new version of your film on Shortfilmdepot before the festival.
Please note that if your film is not selected, we do not accept re-submission from one year to the next, even in a reworked version.

The time limit for the International Competition is 40 minutes & 59 minutes for the National (French) and XR Competitions (see above).

Yes, it’s possible: the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival does not require exclusivity or a premiere.

We will make sure to contact the director(s) and the person who registered the film directly at the end of November in case of selection. The list of selected films will be published at the beginning of December.

In case of non-selection, you will be notified by email and on your Shortfilmdepot account.

This is a flat fee throughout the submission process, there are no early bird discounts.

There are no refunds in case your film is not eligible or selected. Therefore, please carefully check the regulations before submitting & check with your team (distributor, production, filmmaker or film school) to see if your film has already been submitted.

Waivers are not available, however a 50% discount is reserved to film schools, distribution companies or film promotion institutions that would like to submit more than one film, by different directors. To benefit from this discount, the account submitting must be the one of the school, distribution company or film promotion institution. Individual accounts cannot benefit from it. The organization reserves the right to not consider submissions that do not fill these criteria.
