In recent years, South East Asia had seen the rise of new talents taking the international stage. Many of these talents have had their short films premiere in top film festivals followed by years of development for the feature films, where the feature films go on to win awards and accolades – this group includes Anthony Chen, Amanda Nell Eu, Trương Minh Quý, Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke, Rafael Mendoza, Polen Ly, Tumpal Tampubolon, Makbul Mubarak, Phạm Ngọc Lân and more.
The panelists here have all presented their shorts in multiple international film festivals, and we dig into the importance of the short film as an exercise of their vision and voice, their inspiration of collaboration and community, and the short film as a calling card for the filmmakers into their next steps into filmmaking.
